Solar Love

It can be hard to keep up when you’re in graduate school! My studies have unsurfaced intriguing information, and I am glad to imbue the new knowledge into this update. This post is mostly about the transition of Jupiter into Leo and Mars into Scorpio. It is my belief that this indicates a fortifying, encouraging pattern in the romantic and creative aspects of our lifestyle; places that may have suffered due to steeper focuses on family/home, introspection, personal healing, and purification of our body, particularly of the liver & emotional wounds we harbor. Jupiter in Cancer has asked us to reflect, and Jupiter in Leo now asks us to radiate.

The Sun, Moon, & Jupiter in the Lion’s Court; Saturn in Scorpio

As this new moon in Leo encroaches, many of us could now experience the unfolding of a real love story, as planetary patterns encourage an intensification of romance & unadulterated emotional expression. Imminently/presently, through Saturn’s sojourn in Scorpio, there are various tests of commitment, tests of our emotions which validate (or invalidate) our personal notions of love, our perceptions and prejudices. What can we know about love without suffering its absence? When you say you love someone, do you mean their body or their mind? Or do you truly love their soul? How deep does that love go, and to what ends will you suffer so you may maintain and nurture it? These are questions to be explored and potentially answered soon, or to be developed within the next year or so. Your love might face distance, an unnatural sundering, or a relocation/career shift, so to bring you ‘closer’—ironic, no? This is the paradoxical conflict that Jupiter and Saturn often bring: strength, but always with a gamble, or challenge through fear.

Take Your Throne—Sun in Leo, Jupiter in Leo, Mars in Scorpio

Love and attraction extend far beyond the restraints of our corporeal existence, and many will now be reunifying with a soul they’ve met before—perhaps many times. This could be a moment where many are becoming enthralled with their potential king or queen, a destined lover. Trust your intuition about the person you’ve chosen or feel attracted to right now, because a dense irrationality is shrouding mechanisms which toil for a greater, long-term purpose. Jupiter is well received by the Leo constellation, but it is a planet with a strong influence—”celestial clout,” if you will—and he is well endowed with power, very rich & exuberant, much like the Sun. Optimistic, positive augmentations of confidence are noted. Overconfidence can cause trouble. A deluded self-righteousness could impede all progress. Beware becoming to dictatorial, or over possessive in your romantic relationships.

Identities and egos become more sensitive during this time, especially as the weather continues to heat up with the Sun transiting Leo. Jupiter and the Sun in Leo indicate an emboldening of the spirit and of courage. There are significant signs that many persons could be experiencing a shift in personality due to a true love, a true marriage of emotion with sexuality, thanks to the influences of the planets right now. If you’ve been hesitating to call someone, if you’ve felt a little timid, that caution could fall away without warning! This could be problematic if you’re verbose or have no filter—the influence could make you so in love with your own vision of love, so optimistic about how others see you, that you could blunder, but only if you are thoughtless. It is my belief that this planetary placement is actually quite auspicious and will lead to good developments in romance, or creative expression. Even social gain or popularity is potential because of the charisma it sparks.

Mars in Scorpio and Sun/Moon/Jupiter indicate at the very least fantasies concerning a very physical, lustful and unrelenting union with a partner, as Leo needs to exercise passion, pleasure. Both Leo and Scorpio are “fixed” signs. These signs tend to possess and exalt the loved one. The libido could overload the mind without proper outlet (it is important to exercise if celibacy is practiced.) For artists and mystics, it could be a volatile time, because this radical energy makes you want to explode with vision or inspiration. The time is becoming ripe for some real masterpieces.

This is a yearly time where you near a prime version of your ‘solar self,’ the part of you that aspires to be seen and to receive adoration for your abilities. It is such a distinct revolution in self perception that it will magnetize the right people and push away the wrong ones. This will bubble up from a simple acceptance of your dharma, of operating naturally and in accordance with what makes you happy. This is a time for the spirit to be emboldened and unshackled, to rise high & illumine as the Sun does. Thankfully both Venus and Mercury will remain in Cancer for the early parts, and much of the ‘fire’ will be counterbalanced with internal reflection to counteract the fiery, extrovert basis of Jupiter/Sun in Leo.

Anatomy and this transit

Jupiter is recognized as the liver organ. Regenerative, large, the reservoir of our blood-soul (the Hun). It is where our Anger resides, and the maintains flow of our qi. The Sun, as I’ve traditionally learned, is often anatomically related to the heart; yet, in TCM, the heart belongs to Mars. While talking to a professor about this, he insinuated the the Sun composes the backside or “most Yang”side of the body. This is principally related to what we call the Du or Governing channel in TCM. This channel runs straight up the spine, and has a lot to do with our nervous system and rational mental faculties. The most basic illustration of its relevance here is the fact we stand up and engage this channel principally during the daytime. Posture or pathology relating to the spine/Du Channel can infer a lot about the confidence & radiance of a person. The spine maintains our physical mobility or mental flexibility.

Jupiter could bring strength or encourage regeneration and power here, especially while augmented by the Sun’s transit through Leo. It could also lead to more drinking, an abuse of the liver through alcohol, rich/spicy food, drugs. Liver fire (inflammatory toxins in liver) could thoroughly increase, leading to much mania or anger. Some humans could become so overwhelmed they become incensed by rage.

 Springtime in Scorpio’s Forest

The principles within the relationships we inhabit, or aspire to inhabit will begin to conform to those newer qualities gained from rough experiences, from disappointment in past relationships and from the work you’ve put into yourself since such downfalls took place. Think of it like this: enamored by beauty, you walk into a thriving garden bare fisted and leave with bloody palms after a hard days work. Next time you walk into the garden you’ve got gloves and gardening tools. Annoyances cultivate us into more astute persons so that we can attract, maintain and RESPECT the people we love. Through pain we are cultivated.   Through pain we learn to receive and manage our own image, and this fortifies our empathy & pragmatism.

Indeed, the upcoming transits are going to be remedial, and counteractive to some of the lessons inspired by Saturn in Scorpio, which lingers there until the end of the year. Saturn always calls us to caution through some means, whether psychic intuition, or point-blank consequences for our actions. It is the restrictor, the heavy anchor that can ensure us strength during a storm, that draws our attention toward education of a subject, or the fears which carry us to the abyss when we are depressed. Saturn here can frustrate sexuality, digestion, grounding and creative expression. Usually the mistakes made or experienced here lead us to greater evolutions toward ‘maturity,’ especially since Saturn also is often regarded as a conduit or reservoir for our Karma. Its placement can infer the fields of experience in which we may experience a greater challenge or quest, whether as individuals, generational populations or as an entire species.

Mars has been rolling through Libra for the past few months, drawing attention directly to the region of our romantic paradigm that beckons us toward real commitment, real comprehension of the other person and beautification for the greater good. It is the countersign to Aries, and indicates some friction with how we present or approach others. Sometimes we need to stop and realize we are not doing things as gracefully as imagined, or maybe that our priorities have been misaligned. As I mentioned in my previous post, this transit can inspire new one on one relationships that refine the expression or interests of the native through frustrations. It has been an ideal time to investigate and balance the more basic, brute desires that catalyze our interests in other people. The sexual intensity that can be stirred by Mars/Aries/Scorpio is given a moralistic platform by transiting through Libra—for this aspect gives unbridled desire a tangible, emotional structure that can be nourished by physical, sexual love. The opportunity to meet a good mate has been high, and that is why restraint has consistently been tested. A vulgar way of putting it is “it’s easy to fuck; it’s hard to love.” So maybe you’ve had some strange, diverse options put in front of you, and through contrast, you’ve begun to truly recognize what real, unadulterated attraction feels like. You know what you want and you’re ready to work for it.

Saturn Retrograde in Scorpio

keywords: emotional inaction, excessive self-reflection concerning intimacy, transformation of libido, stagnant passion, frustration
tools for harmonizing: being direct with friends and lovers (telling them what you want instead of expecting it),
opting for a new artistic medium (something with video is ideal),
detaching from expectations from your sex life

Saturn has been retrograde for some time now, lingering in the constellation of Scorpio. This can be interpreted in several ways. Saturn is the ruler of Aquarius and Capricorn, air and earth, and is in the Martian house with a water element, that of life, growth and destruction. Saturn’s metaphorical nature of air and earth manifest respectively as intellect through experience (air) and tangible expression, acquisition of power, wealth (earth). If the object does not educate or assist, Saturn shows apathy. In fact, Saturn shows aggression toward things that detract from our development. For this reason, I put some emphasis on its ability to limit or frustrate our relationships.

At its core, this influence could arrest or distort the natural “flow” of your personal life, especially in the realm of your sexuality or your heart-expression (art, flirtation). Typically it is for the advantage of us, because Saturn enjoys keeping “fools from rushing in.” Even if you’re in the midst of a great relationship, you might be inspired to really analyze the components and minutia. Saturn could *cause* problems in this way—making you realize & assert issues that had not existed prior.

Saturn is the grand teacher, infamous for his 28-year returns and the personal liberation & evolution that accompanies such a rotation. Limitations and barriers, injury, pain, social status & education are often related to Saturn. Depressed and introverted behaviors are commonly related to Saturn. Things that typically impede us are persistently associated with Saturn, hence its relationship to the god Hades* (Jupiter being Zeus, and the positive counterweight to Saturn). Edgar Cayce spoke of being upon the Saturn plain in one of his trances, and, if I may paraphrase, that the souls were incapable of getting “around the rings.”

*It is my personal belief that Saturn behaves as a reservoir for souls, planting and retrieving us according to certain celestial mechanisms that I’ve yet to comprehend.

The Saturnine signs of Aquarius and Capricorn have a partnership with Uranus, the disintegrator and upstart of our solar system. Uranus balances out the negative / karmic implications of Saturn with extreme actions or iconoclastic behaviors. Uranus is the energy that toils and explodes from emotional compression. Think of people in your life with mental problems, with depression, and the extremes that result intermittently. This can range from dying one’s hair neon green, to asserting one’s newfound sexuality, all the way to violence if the person is grandly afflicted by their environment.

Fittingly, Uranus is in the Aries constellation, the zodiacal cranium, and other Martian sign of fire. As Saturn hovers within Scorpio–the heart/genitals, Uranus is busy inside the trappings of the heart/mind. This affect could be wreaking havoc on your libido. Saturn is calling attention to alter your magnetism, trying to educate you about your creative expression, from your occupation to your relationship. All the while, Uranus is in your head giving you ideas. Whispering “remember that crazy idea you had? do IT!!!!” or “wouldn’t it be fun if you…”? Yet all of these new, crazy ideas will always be weighed out by Saturn. “I can’t do that because…”—- this is the dichotomy intimately maintained by these two planets.

The implications vary with the placement of your own natal Saturn and its particular occupation of the zodiac in relationship to your signs. The affect could inspire you to wonder why you’re making the same mistakes in romance or why your creative demeanor is stagnating. It could lead you to make such grandiose shifts in behavior that you are lead toward “the one.”

It could also lead you to such frustrations that you become comfortable with being by yourself. I don’t think this is likely because Mars is quickly moving into Scorpio. As Mars, the heart planet, returns to its lower throne in Scorpio, we can expect some fireworks or unexpected shifts. Mars and Saturn are very opposed, insofar that one is tethered to wild independence, aggressive energy and action (mars) and the other to depression, resistance, weight and karma (Saturn). Expect tension between your rational intentions and your passionate intuitions as these planets converge in similar corridors.

Please expect a post on Mars’ summer sojourn & the potentialities, very soon!

***A final note on retrogradation:

The Nei Jing, a tome of ancient Chinese knowledge, insists that retrogradation is a time when both good AND bad affects are amplified by the respective planet. So, by understanding Saturn and all planetary influences better, we can assimilate the experiences in our life that relate. Harmonizing oneself to the astral energies influencing us is typically the first step is actually utilizing astrology effectively. Too often we look for answers within the aspected horoscopes, when they are but indications of emotional/ PSYCHIC WEATHER. If someone tells you a tornado is coming, it is still up to you as an individual to decide how you maneuver against it. Likewise, some tornados roll through a neighborhood leaving many unprepared persons unscathed. Fate is funny like that.

The planets refuse to be so predictable.

The Archer’s Illumination

As the sun moves through Gemini, are you finding yourself easing into new friendships or relationships, social groups and further from your obligations or desire to work? The Twin Sign’s energy is ebullient, cerebral, and a tad electric or eccentric, so we are all buzzing around singing our own song. Gemini is seated near the middle of the celestial procession, and therefore relates to the balance of the feminine and masculine polarities, dualities, divisions and their relatability. This inspires much curiosity, and it is a great time to start new friendships, as less effort is required.

During the Sun’s occupation of Gemini, the Moon meets him to renew herself. The New Moon occurs when she is closest to the Sun, conjoined. In the darkness inspired by the Sun’s embrace, she picks up the solar energy attributed to Gemini and becomes the satellite emissary, disseminating these zodiacal behaviors to the constituents of Earth. As the moon fills, she releases the Gemini energy through the filter of the zodiacal sidereal. She peaks and fills within Sagittarius, the celestial centaur.

The active fire energy of Sagittarius will be channeled through the Full Moon on June 12th / 13th. This sign is an undercurrent and counter to Gemini, much like Aries is to Libra. Gemini natives tend to have a knack for partying, and this is echoed by its relationship to Sagittarius. Both signs have an affinity for one another, and usually derive this through their social connections and behaviors. Mercury rules Gemini and Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, and these planets indicate strength of many sorts. One may observe in the natives of these signs: a tendency to desire to be known and sincerely enjoy friendship (especially parties… these two are prone to substance abuse when stressed), as well as an affinity for wealth and money. A fun party could be right around the corner.

However, as the Moon fills up, you might find yourself feeling bipolar. Flowing back and forth from hiding in your room so you can cultivate your mind and body, to being a social butterfly adding new numbers, new lovers. Your desire to be around people and connect is invigorated by the Lunar release of Geminian power. It could range from social connections to business connections. Spiritual connections are less likely, but the fire of Sagittarius could inspire fleeting, intense sex with more than one person.

I believe that this full Moon will recalibrate your vision. You will remember your greater goal. Right now, it is hard to focus because the potentialities of this year have been unveiled, and they are manifold. New people. New friends. New hobbies. New careers. New love. You have had all the puzzle pieces thrown at you, and perhaps are scrambling to assemble it. The big picture will be revealed imminently, answers are to be had. The Archer, Sagittarius, gives us the (fore)sight to comprehend & to conquer.

Misc. Notes:

The solar energy indicates that it is a good time to strengthen your arms. If you have an afflicted house with Geminian influence, injury could be sustained in the upper extremities, but what is meant to be will be, eh?

Jupiter is currently in Cancer, the Moon’s house. The Full Moon could release some extreme energies through the combination of Jupiter’s intensifying effect and the Moon’s subconscious influences. Emotional tidal waves, new relationships… A real desire to love and be loved.

Mars goes direct in Libra

For the past few months, Mars has been in retrogradation within Libra.

Libra is a countersign and complement to Mars and his zodiacal houses. It is ruled by Venus, and this ownership is benevolent to Mars as it directs its course. Mars is a source of our passions, our libido and our aggressive, fiery energy. As it transits this constellation, the attention of human minds could lean toward bodily beauty and aesthetic refinement.

But what happens in retrograde? The retrogradation can be seen as a wandering, a dark period that can attenuate us in certain regions of our life, so that we may reflect & fully realize a potential. This is what I’ve digested from Dane Rudhyar’s ideas, thus far. This particular retrograde can aggravate us into realizing our pitfalls in relationships, as well as the repetitive mistakes that have caused us to hurt our bodies. The intrinsic balance that comes from our physical health will be illumined now.

Mars in retrograde could have fueled aggressive tension and excessive challenges within your creative outlets, as well as relationships, friendships. The impediment of your artistic expression is notable. Libra exudes the Venusian desire for balance, so moderation of vices was flimsy during retrogradation. Maybe you went way too far, or no where at all, leading you to feel overwhelmed or idle. Martian energy is forceful and energetic, so the resistance and confusion tend to manifest as a lot of internalized emotion. The lack of articulation you’ve experienced will now begin to dissipate. Action is imminent; the storm is clearing.

The direct motion of Mars indicates positive influence in particular sectors, especially those related to health, art and beauty (the hot Martian energy could lead to stronger kidney function, too. Drink well, avoid excess alcohol to get the most out of this). This will also give you more command within your relationships and especially personal expression of who you really are. If you’ve felt restrained or confused about your love life; things are about to look a lot more clear. This is also a great time to redirect that Martian fire into sculpting a beach body.

Martians rejoice – you are back on track now.

The Scorpion Moon

Every May, as in each month, there is a zodiacal duality composed by the dance of the Sun and Moon. For example, in February the Sun rolls through Aquarius, and the Moon positions in Leo. What this means is that the mentioned planet or luminary is transitioning through that constellation in the sky. These transitions are consistent with our seasons, & these observations are the pillars of many human calendrical systems—unquestioned systems that compose our society and daily life in modernity.

These celestial relationships are also the basis of astrological interpretations / aspects, for every single planet maintains its own ‘lunation cycle,’ or relationship to the Sun, Moon, Earth & subsequently you and all other universal objects. The questions and answers astrologers tend to seek are ones of relation, so there is always a new dynamic to be explored in every iteration of the solar cycle. The universe is not static; neither are the mechanisms that astrologers use to deduce their interpretations.

Tonight the Moon is filling in Scorpio, and that has been the trend for many Mays on Earth. The consequences are that our subconscious desires will oscillate to the antithesis of the solar energy, thus leading to the decline of the Taurean period of this year. What does that mean? Two things. Lunar energy is at a peak—the Moon is “matching” the Sun, inspiring a balance of Taurus energy, its decline and then its death (or the birth of Gemini depending on your perspective). This iterative process serves as the interface for new seasons, new experiences and new energetic changes in your body and mind. This process is also how astrologers tend to typify and derive archetypes for their readings and assessments. Some through study, some through intuitive or psychic power.

Indeed, with the Sun in Taurus, humans tend to be motivated by acquisition/ presentation, whether it be power in our career, physical strength, spiritual wealth, common treasure, or the attention of a lover. The House of Taurus is under the dominion of Venus, so the Sun becomes a funnel or filter of this—for better or worse, it emanates an influence that we can harness and be subject to.

Generally this inspires friendliness, a cool demeanor in order to persuade and invite attention. It is typically a guise for sincere emotionality. The experiences of this time tend toward good financial opportunities, , new housing or “settling down.” Helena Blavatsky espoused in her prodigious research how the Taurus constellation has been revered for eons, and is the proverbial holy cow, so good fortune may have presented itself to you recently, especially if you are a son or daughter of Venus.

Taurus is also the constellation associated with the height of the Egyptian age. Egyptian artifacts echo golden and profound energies that we scarcely understand. Royalty, obedience, exquisite architecture (across body, mind, & soul), mired with elaborate death rites and fantastic healing rituals: this summates the absolute basis of the solar and lunar aspect of Taurus, and something many of them hide well underneath a meek passivity.

The Bull and the Scorpion make strange bedmates, no? One dominates of Spring and the other Autumn. *The signs are truly polar in their demeanor when manifest in human behavior. A scorpion will stride in, take what they want, scowl at what they don’t, cause a mess if they wish and then get in a fight if they feel like it (aggression is easier for scorpions to express than sadness or misunderstanding; for weakness is anathema to this Martian influence). You can tell when a Scorpio has a heavy lunar influence if they insist on elegance and fashion, or reservation instead of assertion. This is their Venus showing, and through the Scorpion filter it can come out as gothic and dark beauty, and a sleek ego.

Conversely, a bull would be hesitant to leave the comfort of his house or lover, and if he did, it would be for a very happening party or a luxuriant dinner. The Bull’s shadowy Scorpion side can be seen in her horns, which are adept at goring any enemy. One of the reasons Taureans are so nice is because of the innate ferocity they mask. Do not tempt a Taurus to show you her angry side. This would take a lot of provocation, anyway. Taureans under immense pressure tend to hold in their emotions and gather weight. Taurus persons hate weakness, not so much due to honor, but because it is offensive and disruptive.

Lunar Scorpion energy is at its peak right now, which is encouraging radical change. Developments in your life right now revolve through qualities of gain, loss and transformation. While in the solar Taurus period, we become subject to particular advancements, but the costs might elude us presently. Perhaps without even knowing it, you are cutting bonds or outgrowing careers, clothes, cars, emotions. These could be material items you are losing. You may have uprooted or left a job for new, greener pastures. A relationship could be dissolving, but you might scarcely notice due to the thriving & flourishing of so many other mechanisms and factors of your life.

Anatomically, these signs relate to the throat and root chakra (the glands associated with your thyroid and perineum). Your creative expression both sexually and artistically are commonly related to these chakras and constellations. If you feel inspiration, something urging you artistically or romantically, now is the time to truly harness it and nourish its growth. If you do not cultivate your sexual or creative energy, it will almost inevitably force it to emerge as conflict. Avoid direct conflict, for this is the ripe time for fire to burn away many opportunities. Scorpio is the water energy of Mars, so think like water, which through rain or river can slowly make its mark and transform immovable earth.

Reduce, reuse, recycle is a good mantra right now. Don’t get burdened by the influx of new energies and relationships. Know that in order for a garden to grow, you must be able to distinguish weeds from flowers. Pick your damn weeds. Not all growth is good, so evoke this Scorpion energy in order to counteract & subdue the plethora of desires and opportunity that Venus inspires.
